- Energy prices have been renegotiated for 2,800 residential units with over 5,000 tenants in Salzgitter-Lebenstedt
- Possible savings of up to 275 EUR per unit

Salzgitter, 15 June 2012 - TAG Immobilien AG (TAG) owns more than 8,800 meineSZitty residential units in the town of Salzgitter and had advertised for bids for their heating and energy supply - all over Germany - for about a third of them, due to the expiration of its past contracts with WEVG GmbH & Co. KG.

This is first and foremost a success for the more than 5,000 tenants of the meineSZitty flats in Lebenstedt. From 1 July 2012, they will benefit from the new contracts with significantly lower heating costs. Now that the local utilities provider WEVG has granted meineSZitty the desired terms, tenants can now look forward to savings of up to 275 EUR per unit and year. meineSZitty expects heating costs to be lowered by an average 130 EUR per tenancy.

WEVG Salzgitter was able to make this offer by optimising heat output from its own heating plants and signing a long-term heating supply contract with meineSZitty. Starting with the 2012/13 heating season, another 4,000 residential units will be hooked up to the district heating grid - so three months from now, approx. 80% of meineSZitty tenants will already be benefitting from the new terms.

'We are constantly taking action wherever we can reduce costs for our customers. By calling for tenders nationwide, in the end we were able to get a better-than-average price, and provide our tenants with tangible relief from part of the cost of utilities and common charges. The fact that these savings are achieved by using regenerative energy sources underscores the sustainable nature of this move,” says TAG Immobilien AG CEO Rolf Elgeti.

WEVG’s eight heating stations are currently being converted to environmentally friendly combined heat-and-power (CHP) stations. Two of the stations will be converted to green electricity production before the year is out, and the conversion of three other stations is planned by 2015. WEVG will also switch the common-area electricity supply, such as the stairwell lighting, to green electricity for meineSZitty at no extra charge. meineSZitty will in future recommend eco-friendly electricity from WEVG to new tenants, and will also offer tenants energy-saving workshops in cooperation with the WEVG.

In a first step, tenants in the following streets will benefit from the step: Am Fuchsgraben, Hasenwinkel, Johann-Sebastian-Bach-Strasse, Neuer Mühlenweg, Reppnersche Strasse, Ütschenkamp, Meerweg and Schillerstrasse
